Rites of Passage Programs

Step Into the Footsteps of LegendsThe Hero Project brings to life the epic journeys of some of the world’s most legendary heroes and heroines—reimagined as powerful, real-world adventures. By walking in their ancient footsteps, participants awaken their deepest passions, discover their purpose, and ignite the hero within.
“Kids come in at the beginning with a chip on their shoulder, and by the end, they’re giving face-to-face apologies with microphones in front of 150 students, crying with joy and relief, hugging each other. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen.”  -Chad Novak, PhD, School Counselor

An Epic Day

Epic Day: A Rite of Passage That Transforms

Epic Days are large-scale, experiential rites of passage designed for up to 100 students and 25 adult volunteers. Each day-long event is uniquely tailored to the needs of the group, blending fun, safety, and inclusivity to address critical issues such as bullying, violence, substance abuse, historical trauma, and suicide prevention.

Far more than just a school assembly, an Epic Day is an unforgettable experience filled with high-energy games, engaging activities, powerful music, and emotional breakthroughs. Within a carefully structured and supportive environment, students are guided through a journey of self-discovery that allows them to explore the hidden pain behind self-destructive choices.

By the end of the day, youth are often moved to open up, forgive, and ask for forgiveness—not because they’re told to, but because they’ve found the courage and safety to do so. The compassion that emerges is both raw and real, and its impact ripples through the entire school community.

In just one day, Epic Day creates a powerful shift—building empathy, breaking down barriers, and inspiring a culture of connection and healing.

8-Week Cycle

The 8-Week Cycle: A Rite of Passage for Emerging Heroes

The 8-Week Cycle is a transformative follow-up to Epic Day events—or a powerful stand-alone program. Rooted in the timeless tradition of rites of passage, this journey is built around culturally relevant stories that reflect the heroic values of the community, selected in partnership with key stakeholders, elders, and professionals.

Each week, students engage in a blend of traditional practices and adventure-based activities carefully aligned with the chosen story. Every experience is designed to highlight deeper character themes—such as respect, resilience, forgiveness, sacrifice, or hope—inviting students to reflect, grow, and walk in the footsteps of legendary heroes.

Students enroll as a cohort of up to 10 participants, forming a tight-knit group or "pledge class" that travels through the entire 8-week process together. The journey culminates in a powerful graduation ceremony, including a 30-minute highlight film that shares each student’s path of self-discovery with their parents, peers, and teachers.

The 8-Week Cycle is adaptable for both indoor and outdoor settings, making it accessible in all weather conditions and scalable for native and non-native communities alike—urban or rural.
Wherever it’s delivered, the result is the same: young people who feel empowered, seen, and ready to step into their roles as the next generation of community heroes.
8-Week Cycle, Services include:
  • Community and school assessments
  • Custom designed curriculums
  • Culturally-based (if applicable)
  • Staff development & training
